Only what you turn on, on your own phone:
Each source has its own switch in the app (You → Privacy → What Smiti reads). Switched-off apps are filtered on the phone and never leave it. Every other notification on your phone is ignored.
Everything is used only to help you: remembering your people, their birthdays and special dates, the promises and plans in your chats, money between you and friends, things people sent you (addresses, UPI IDs, bookings, links), catch-ups for busy groups, memories, and drafts written the way you talk to each person.
To do this Smiti builds private notes about the people in your chats — like a birthday, how you talk to them, or what's going on in their life. These notes exist only for you, are never shown to anyone else, and are deleted with your data.
It also keeps a living picture of your life and of each person in it — what's going on now, your routines, what's open between you — written in plain words from those notes, and works out your Today from it. Every note points back to the message it came from. Things about health, relationships, money trouble or legal matters are marked private.
You can see everything it understands on your Today and on each person's page. Mark any line as wrong and it is removed at once, what it came from is set aside, and Smiti won't say it again. Deleting a chat, a recording or a person also rewrites these pictures without it.
To understand messages and recordings, Smiti sends the relevant text or audio to AI services that process it on our behalf, only to produce your results:
During early access, the Gemini and Groq backups may run on their free tiers, whose terms can allow the provider to use content to improve its services. Before Smiti opens to everyone, all processing moves to paid services whose terms don't allow keeping or training on your data. If you'd rather wait for that, you can keep sources switched off until then.
Your data is stored in a cloud database (MongoDB Atlas) and processed on servers in Singapore (Render), protected in transit (HTTPS) and encrypted at rest by our database provider. AI services may process it outside India, as listed above.
You see it in the app, and on the web after logging in. During early access, the person building Smiti may look at system data to fix problems; it is never used for anything else.
Call recordings and voice notes are deleted as soon as Smiti has written them up — only the text is kept. Chat export files you upload are kept until you delete them (unless you chose not to keep them when uploading), so Smiti can re-read them as it improves.
Can't use the app? See how to delete your account.
Until you delete it. Deleting removes it from our live database straight away. Copies can remain in our database provider's automatic backups until those expire on the provider's schedule.
